Virtual Running 101: Staying Connected, from a Distance

By Marnie Kunz

In today’s chaotic coronavirus world, social distancing has become a central and necessary part of our lives. But how is the running community handling the distance, when we are so used to high-fiving, group runs, races, training partners, and Art Run socializing? We are staying connected virtually. Although our runs have changed, and everything from our running routes to our race calendars are now different, we are still connected!

We actually had the tools to stay connected all along. By posting and tracking our runs on apps like Strava (join Club Runstreet on Strava), and sharing our runs on social media, which we have always done, we can still encourage each other and chat from afar. And now with Virtual Runs, we can do everything from Virtual Races to Virtual Art Runs. So you can keep your competitive training going, as well as share your fun, remotely. Our Runstreet Virtual Art Runs allow you to find new street art in your city, check out our suggested Art Run routes, win swag and get super cool virtual medals.

If you’re looking for a fun Virtual Run, check out our Runstreet Virtual Spring Art Run with EVEN Hotels on May 2 and 3. You can run this fun 5K adventure in your own hood, or if you’re in the midtown NYC area, follow our suggested art map. Showcase the beauty in your city with a snapshot on your run, and tag @Runstreet and @evenmidtownnyc. There will be photo contest prizes, including a grand prize of a free stay at the EVEN Hotels Midtown East! Find out more and register here.

Another way people are staying connected is through fitness and running challenges, such as the Push-up Challenge circulating on Instagram, and various mileage challenges on Strava. Our friends at Strength in the City also are offering a host of online workouts and fitness activities that will keep you plugged into the fitness community and active, all while supporting local businesses. Check out their at-home workouts here.

How are you staying connected through running during these crazy coronavirus times? Drop us a line below or email your story to marnie@runstreet.com if you’d like to share for our blog.
