RUNSTREET X BKLYN TREKS HALLOWEEN--6.JPG

By Marnie Kunz

Runstreet is excited to partner with Bklyn Treks for the Haunted Brooklyn 5K Run and Walk to celebrate Halloween, our favorite holiday! The morning’s fun will include Brooklyn history, chills, costumes, local eats, and of course, fitness! There is a Brooklyn 5K run and a 5k walk option for this spooktacular tour of North Brooklyn’s most haunted places. Melissa Corrigan, founder of Bklyn Treks, will lead the 5K walking tour and yours truly, the founder of Runstreet, will lead the 5K fun run. Costumes are encouraged, and the theme is Spirit Animals!

The 5K routes will be guided. For runners, the pace will be a 10-minute mile pace, and the walk will be at a pace of 20 minutes per mile. Both tours will make stops to tell tales of hauntings along the route, and we will also check out some street art and the creative Halloween decor in Historic Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

Dress as your spirit animal and come out for a fun Brooklyn Halloween event to kick off your Halloween 2021 weekend!

Highlights of the Haunted Brooklyn 5K Run and Walk include:

  • Visit 6 haunted Brooklyn locations and hear the stories of the spooky history of each place.

  • Meet other fantastic folks in Brooklyn who love Halloween, history, outdoor exercise, and art!

  • See the lovely historic Carroll Gardens neighborhood and the homes decked out in festive Halloween decor.

  • Stop for photos and learn about the mural artists at the Wall of Justice in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

  • Finish in Historic Carroll Gardens and reward yourself with a sweet treat while socializing with the rest of the group. We will finish the route by the Caroll Street Subway Station, on the F/G lines.

  • The 5K will begin at Cadman Plaza in downtown Brooklyn, accessible via many major subway lines. Meet in front of the Henry Ward Beecher Statue in Cadman Plaza Park, at the intersection of Johnson Street and Cadman Plaza West.

  • There will be a costume contest for the most creative Spirit Animal.

This fun Brooklyn 5K event is all-inclusive ad everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a runner or a local history buff interested in the walking tour, you’ll find what you’re looking for. Kids and dogs are also welcome at the Haunted Brooklyn 5K Run & Walk. Kids under 12 are free and must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Dogs must be up to date on all vaccines, have no aggression issues, and be able to complete the 5K run or walk.
